Steps You Can Take on the Personal Front to Reduce Your Toxic Exposure
- Don’t use weed killers (herbicides) or bug sprays (pesticides). Find safer alternatives without these harmful chemicals.
- Buy organic foods when you can.
- Observe all fish advisories.
- Eat lower on the food chain -- choosing local fruits, vegetables and grains rather than dairy foods and meat.
- Use non-toxic cleaning supplies.
- Keep your home well-ventilated.
- Don’t smoke and keep away from second-hand smoke.
- Don’t buy products that contain PVC, mercury or phthalates.
- Don’t use burning as a way to get rid of yard waste or trash.
- Reduce the amount and the toxicity of your garbage by buying smart, reusing and recycling.
